The impressive new CMYKhub facility in Keilor Park, Melbourne proved to be a fitting venue for this year’s LIA Victoria Graduate of the Year Awards event. Around 50 guests gathered for the occasion, first enjoying a comprehensive ‘behind the scenes’ tour of CMYKhub’s new facility and equipment.

When the main event began, LIA Victoria’s David Galbraith, Chair of the LIA graduate committee, Lindsey Banks and the 2025 LIA Victorian and National Graduate Award winner, Jackson Young, led the proceedings. Young spoke to the positive impact that both winning the awards and the process to get to that point had on him personally, before Banks and Galbraith announced the six finalists and ultimate winners.

Placard’s Jason Girling, who secured a Certificate III in Printing (Litho) from Holmesglen TAFE, was named as this year’s LIA Victoria Graduate Award winner, receiving a $3,000 grant towards further training, travel or resources to further his career. MCC Melbourne’s Daravuth Chaay, received a Special Distinction and $1000 cheque to complement his Certificate III in Printing Flexo with MCC Labels.

Congratulations too to the other four graduates nominated as finalists:

  • Sithara Govinnage also from MCC Melbourne (Certificate III in Printing Flexo with MCC Labels
  • Daniel Angerosa from Graphic Packaging International (Certificate III in Printing Litho from Holmesglen TAFE);
  • Jesse Romano Lizama from Filton Packaging (Certificate III in Printing Flexo from Holmesglen TAFE); and
  • Jake Slaven MCC Global IML (Certificate III in Printing Litho for MCC Labels).

Introducing the nominees, Galbraith said: “All these candidates are super-motivated, ambitious people who love their print careers. It is genuinely pleasing to hear their stories and to see their interest in further training in leadership and management, as they seek to improve themselves and create opportunities to step up when the opportunity presents itself.”

With the awards sponsored by Heidelberg Australia (formerly Seligson & Clare Australia) since 1972, and by supplier association, Visual Connections, it was only fitting that the honour of presenting the awards certifications to each of the nominated finalists should fall to National Sales Manager at Heidelberg Australia, Dierk Wissmann,

Robyn Frampton, LIA Victoria President, concluded proceedings by highlighting the quality of new talent in the sector, and the responsibility of the industry at large to do what we can to support opportunity and career growth. Frampton said: “It is on all of us to make sure we continue to encourage those who are new to our sector, and ensure they have the support and opportunities to continue to develop their skills and build their careers.”
