IVE Group moves on out-of-home media market
IVE Group, Australia’s largest diversified marketing company and biggest print business, has targeted expansion into the out-of-home sector, one of the fastest growing media channels in the market, through a $20.7 million acquisition of Motio Limited.
Describing itself as ‘leaders in audience experience’, Motio has built a broad Audience Experience platform for Digital Place-Based locations, comprising a network of 1,300 digital screens across pharmacies, healthcare settings and retail environments.
The addition of this network to IVE’s existing marketing services portfolio, would clearly be a positive step for the group, but Matt Aitken, IVE Group Managing Director, believes the acquisition ‘will actually be a win-win for both companies’: “Motio is a profitable place-based media owner with a differentiated network in environments where audiences are typically stationary and attentive. This acquisition gives us the ability to offer our clients a channel which they cannot currently access from IVE and gives Motio’s network access to one of the largest advertiser bases in the country.”
Adam Cadwallader, Motio’s Managing Director also believes that there is a ‘strong strategic fit’ between the two organisations, saying that over the past years: “We have built Motio into a very different business, simplifying the company, improving its operating performance and establishing specialist media networks across a number of attractive environments.”
The proposed deal, which is firmly aligned with IVE’s broader stated 2030 growth strategy, would represent a targeted strategic extension of IVE’s core capabilities, combining proven expertise in media planning, audience strategy, and media sales with a robust scalable ad-serving technology stack and an established location-based media network. It is expected to enable IVE to extend beyond the creation and production of marketing communications into the ownership, delivery, and monetisation of media, opening new markets, new customer segments, and new recurring revenue streams.
The Motio board has unanimously recommended the scheme in the absence of a superior proposal and subject to a favourable independent expert opinion.
