Grafico celebrates 12 years on The Block
With The Block 2026 marking the hit Channel 9 reality TV home renovation show’s 22nd season in production, multi-award-winning creative agency and print specialist, Grafico reflects on its own 12 year partnership with the series, in the latest issue of Digital Image Magazine .
Damian Corney, Founder and CEO of Grafico, recalls the moment he first met The Block’s production team: “They actually approached us at a trade show, because they were apparently big fans of our wallpaper products. We designed a challenge for the 2012 contestants, where they had to take photos and then convert them into wallpaper for a feature wall in one of the rooms, and they actually filmed the challenge at our Grafico studio which felt pretty surreal.”
Following the success of this first introduction, Grafico had a foot in the production door and in subsequent years ‘did bits and pieces – a print here, some wallpaper there’ steadily building the partnership to a point where Grafico was regularly assisting in helping contestants to produce hero prints and features for their rooms.
Corney adds: “Eventually we cemented the relationship with a more formal sponsorship arrangement, which saw contestants given a dollar amount each series which they could spend with us. Part of the deal was that they also secured my services for an exclusive period during their build.”
Obviously, the benefits of this arrangement far outweighed any investment cost, with The Block launching Grafico products and service capability to a nationwide audience in a manner that not even the largest advertising budget would have been able to achieve.
Corney continues: “For another show, we worked with Canon to install and commission a Canon Colorado on the production set itself in Daylesford, so that we could have a sort of pop-up Grafico, at the beck and call of that year’s contestants – a lot of effort for a fortnight’s use!”
Challenge has always been synonymous with The Block relationship, midst a production workflow that typically sees taking a brief on Monday, designing it Tuesday, printing Wednesday/Thursday and installing on Friday/Saturday before the ‘big reveal’ on Sunday.
Corney sees the half-full glass in this: “On the plus side, the work we do with The Block has pretty much prepared us for anything in ‘normal client’ world. We talk a lot about partnership over transaction and that’s always been the Grafico MO.”
Grafico operates across three specialist areas – Auto, Walls and Signage – serving residential and commercial clients of all sizes across a vast range of industries. A popular online store has enabled the company to service an international audience and Grafico partners with some iconic global brands, winning multiple industry awards.
