Roland DG launches new VersaOBJECT MO-180 UV Flatbed Printer

Roland DG has announced the addition of the MO-180 UV flatbed printer to its VersaOBJECT series.

“The MO series was born with the aim of setting a new standard for UV flatbed printers capable of achieving the beautiful and high-definition print quality that our UV printers are known for with higher productivity. Following the release of the popular MO-240 in January 2024, we have added the MO-180 to the lineup,” says Ryugo Nimura, President of Roland DG’s Global Sales and Marketing Division.

The MO-180 is designed to be the most compact of the series, providing VersaOBJECT solutions for various situations, from offices and factories to store backrooms and schools.

The MO-180 achieves productivity of 1.90sqm/h in standard mode by combining two newly developed large print heads in a staggered layout with a UV-LED lamp and dot control technology optimised for high-speed output. Productivity for simultaneous white printing has also been improved to approximately double that of previous models in the LEF2 Series. In addition, the ink can be cured in a shorter time so that small characters, fine text, and subtle gradations can be reproduced in high definition to the smallest detail.

Roland DG EUV5 inks include Orange, Red, CMYK, White, and Gloss. By controlling orange and red inks as process colours, the colour gamut is expanded by approximately 20% compared to CMYK printing, resulting in superior colour reproduction and accuracy. Gloss ink produces premium gloss or matte finishes and realistic textures, including 3D embossed effects. EUV5 inks can be printed on a wide range of soft to hard materials, including plastic, paper, leather, wood, etc. Glass and metal can be printed on using primer ink.

The printing area covers 458mm x 305 mm and can print on three-dimensional objects up to 204 mm thick. The MO-180 can incorporate tall fixtures for printing on items of various shapes. In addition, with the optional rotary axis unit, the machine can print on cylindrical objects such as bottles from a minimum diameter of 10 mm to a maximum diameter of 121 mm.

The 7-inch full-colour touch panel makes printer operation more intuitive. It allows quick access to print settings, maintenance operations, and other items in an easy-to-use visual format. A new automatic cleaning function keeps the print head in good condition, helping achieve consistent print quality. VersaWorks 7, Roland DG's latest professional RIP software, is included to maximise the capabilities of the MO-180. It processes PDF, EPS, and PS files with precision and high speed and auto-generates White, Gloss and Primer layers with one button. In addition to Windows OS, the software is also available for macOS. The MO-180 supports cloud-based services, including Roland DG Connect, with support in the event of errors, operational visibility, and easy profit calculations. It also features PrintAutoMate, ideal for e-commerce businesses that handle a wide variety of data, media, and products and require continuous output in large batches.

Nimura concludes, “The diversification and individualisation of consumer needs has led to a growing interest in new services such as customisation and personalisation, and the need for the VersaOBJECT series, which can produce a variety of high value-added items in small-to-medium lots, has been increasing. We will continue to provide customers around the world with solutions that contribute to people's creativity and business expansion.”
