Colourful addition to Currie Group service capability
Currie Group has expanded its technical service offering with the launch of a dedicated colour and media profiling service, supported by its investment in a new Barbieri Spectro LFP qb spectrophotometer. The service enables Currie Group’s technical specialists to develop custom ICC profiles for specific printer, ink and media combinations, giving customers greater control over colour reproduction across their production environments.
Unlike generic profiles, a custom ICC profile is created around the characteristics of the customer’s individual production conditions. This can improve colour accuracy and repeatability, maximise the available colour gamut and reduce the time and materials required to achieve an acceptable result.
The Spectro LFP qb provides fully automated reflection and transmission measurements, enabling Currie Group to create profiles for standard frontlit and backlit substrates. Equipped with a dedicated textile sample holder, the system also allows Currie Group to develop colour profiles for textile applications.
Supporting this new capability is Kent Xu, who has joined Currie Group as Applications Specialist. Kent brings 20 years of print industry experience, including 15 years in application support and colour management roles across Australia and New Zealand. His technical expertise spans sign and display and corrugated printing, together with extensive knowledge of ONYX, Caldera, Fiery and ColorGATE RIP and workflow platforms.
Paul Whitehead, Currie Group General Manager – Commercial / Sign & Display, says the combination of the new technology and Kent’s expertise would provide customers with practical support in an increasingly colour-critical production environment. “Colour performance is influenced by the complete production combination, including the printer, ink, media, RIP and operating conditions,”
“With Kent’s extensive knowledge and the new Spectro LFP qb, we can develop profiles around each customer’s specific production requirements, helping them achieve more predictable colour and greater consistency from one production run to the next. This can also reduce the trial and error involved when introducing new media, helping customers save time, minimise waste and get more from their existing equipment.”
The addition of colour and media profiling further strengthens Currie Group’s end-to-end service capability, extending its support beyond equipment installation and maintenance to the ongoing optimisation of customer production environments.
