If we can convert a good percentage of those to apprenticeships in the next couple of years, this will go a long way in helping to ease the skills shortage in the sign industry that we expect will remain a problem for at least the short to medium term,” said Mick Harrold, ASGA President. “We have the first of our signage taster courses scheduled for the 26th and 27th of October at TAFE Queensland, Southbank, Brisbane, with others around the states being organised for later in the year and early next year.” The taster courses will be held in collaboration with various training institutions and industry suppliers and are designed as a hands-on introduction to various aspects of sign-making. They will cover: a general overview and introduction to the industry. a mini-TAFE tour of the relevant facilities. multiple hands-on activities. use of technology and suitable applications. industry site visit.
