So it was no surprise when the team got to work on an exciting project with the popular House Rules TV series. Their challenge: to provide a bright and bold sign logo design to landmark the penthouse where the eight competing teams would be renovating. Mark Fabbro, Owner Fabsigns, tells us more. While Mark and his team were excited to work on the House Rules project , they were also confident that they could rise to the challenge and meet the client’s expectations with their reputation for creative and high quality signwriting. Fabsigns has a trade-qualified team of workers and Mark himself has completed a four year apprencticeship - he learnt signwriting ‘the old way’ and then digitally. “We are not just a collection of tradesman as we believe in quality customer service. Being an established and growing business, we also understand what our clients want,” explains Mark. The brief was to assist the House Rules marketing department and create a loud, bold and eye catching design on the 32nd floor of the iconic Focus Apartments beachfront penthouse, to landmark where the eight teams from around Australia would be renovating in the style of ‘Miami Beach makeover’. “When it came to the details surrounding where the teams would be doing their renovation, it was clear a loud, bold and eye catching design would be needed. Our dilemma was how to pack all of that into a highrise in one of the largest tourist destinations in the country,” he says. Luckily the Fabsigns team doesn’t fall short when it comes to creativity. Together they decided the best way to showcase the logo was with stunning, bold and eye catching traditional signwriting to display the House Rules logo large and proud. The team of signwriters used a combination of templates, hard marking and free hand drawing to create the outline before completing the art. “We painted the circular rooftop and then marked this all out using old school sign writing scaling by hand. Then we painted in the logo and after filming, painted this all out again,” he explains. Once the design was completely painted, the team covered the entire roof with a grey waterproof membrane. The process from start to finish took four days. “This ensures the design stands out while also lasting the test of time. With such an extravagant logo that was to be aired on National free-to-air television for the country to see, quality was the utmost concern,” says Mark. “We are proud to have worked with Channel 7 to create a logo in the heart of the Gold Coast that will be there for years to come.” Previous Article A life of art: James and Sherile Down (Part 2) Next Article International Women's Day - A celebration of women in signage If you have a news story, or story about an interesting project or installation please contact [email protected] Sign up to Image Magazine Newsletter.
