Blazek and Read close the doors on Neon Signs

Neon Signs Australia of East Brisbane will be closing its doors at the end of September after thirty-three years of manufacturing and installing neon signs across Australia. Partners Duncan Read, and Michael Blazek, are retiring but will continue to dabble in the craft they love.

In the last fifteen years, Blazek has salvaged over one hundred neon signs from businesses that have closed, relocated or upgraded their signage. The collectible antique signs harken back to when LED modules and moving message signs dominated the market when a neon sign was the best option for attracting customers. Blazek notes that some still work perfectly 20-25 years later, saying it is a testament to their lasting value.

Blazek would like to exhibit his collection, noting the tourism value of the Neon Museum in Las Vegas and the Museum of Neon Art (MONA) in Los Angeles. He is seeking an opportunity and space to showcase these examples of work from the Australian neon sign industry, some dating back sixty years.

Anyone who would like to be part of this new venture is invited to contact Michael Blazek on 0407 890 757 or [email protected]
