Upgrades released for the Roland DG VersaSTUDIO BY-20 DTF Desktop Printer

Roland DG has announced enhanced ink and upgraded functionality for its VersaSTUDIO BY-20 desktop DTF (Direct-to-Film) printer, creating additional user capabilities and applications.

The BY-20 is a compact, easy-to-use, affordable desktop DTF printer for professional apparel production. After printing on a special film, hot-melt powder is applied and thermally melted. The film is layered on fabric and heat-pressed to create original graphics for various items such as T-shirts, sportswear, or tote bags.

The New S-PG2 Ink, developed explicitly for Roland DG’s high-end DTF printers, is now compatible with the BY-20, enabling higher-quality printing on desktop printers.
Maintenance functions on the BY-20 have also been improved. A new Cleaning Liquid allows users to clean the printheads more efficiently, and a new Head Nozzle Refresher allows anyone to easily clean the printheads’ surface manually. Manual maintenance prevents printhead nozzles from misfiring, enabling reliable operation.

With these new enhanced functions, we can provide a more stable working environment by enabling optimum printhead maintenance. Videos and manuals that clearly explain how to properly maintain the products are also available to assist our users. Exclusive VersaWorks 7 (VW7) RIP software, included with the BY-20, now provides auto colour generation for the White ink layer, often used in DTF printing as a base coat. Starting in September 2025, it will also be compatible with the PNG format. VW7 thus saves time creating White ink layers, which previously required separate design software.

Roland DG says it will notify BY-20 owners regarding the changeover to the new inks. In addition, a Head Nozzle Refresher will be provided free of charge from July 23, 2025. A one-year extended warranty is also free to current owners and anyone who purchases a BY-20 before the end of the year.
