Janet / Thursday, 19 October 2023 / Categories: Latest News, Associations ASGA webinar to address the Respect@Work Report The Australian Signs and Graphics Association (ASGA) has announced its next webinar, titled "Navigating Workplace Law Changes: A Crucial Webinar for Businesses," saying it is designed to address the latest developments in workplace law and provide key insights into risk management and compliance. This webinar has been organised in response to the recommendations outlined in the Respect@Work Report by the Sex Discrimination Commissioner. These recommendations prompted the Federal Government to implement substantial changes to the Sex Discrimination Act in late 2022. Among the notable revisions is the introduction of a 'positive duty' principle, which places the onus on business owners to actively take measures to eliminate discriminatory conduct and sexual harassment in the workplace. One of the most significant changes on the horizon is the expanded authority of the Australian Human Rights Commission. Starting in December 2023, the commission will have the power to enforce compliance with this positive duty. This makes it essential for businesses to have a clear understanding of their obligations and ensure they are in full compliance with these legal reforms. Fiona Corbett, National Manager of Workplace Advice at Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA), will be the featured speaker at this informative webinar. Corbett's extensive expertise in workplace law will allow her to provide an in-depth overview of the recent changes to the Sex Discrimination Act. Additionally, she will explain how ASGA members can effectively utilise the new ASGA Workplace Advice Line, a resource that offers guidance on understanding the latest legal updates and provides support on a wide range of workplace-related matters. The association says that understanding the nuances of the positive duty principle and the expanded role of the Australian Human Rights Commission is crucial to ensuring industry remain in compliance with the evolving legal landscape. The webinar takes place on 14 November at 2:00 PM AEDT. It is FREE for ASGA Members and $30 for non-members. Interested parties can Register Here for the webinar.
