Call for Volunteers for Careers Expos in SA & WA

May will be a busy month for the Sign & Print Career Connections team, with Careers Expos in both South Australia and Queensland set to feature the new-look talent initiative. Organisers, Visual Connections are putting out the call for volunteers to share their industry experience with students.

The initiative will travel to Adelaide for the South Australian Careers & Employment Expo, which will be held on 10 and 11 May at the Adelaide Showgrounds.

From there, the stand and the team will make their way to the  Queensland Careers & Employment Expo, which will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on 24 and 25 May.

“Our fantastic new stand, designed and produced in cooperation with Visual Media Association and IVE Group – has already proven highly effective in attracting the attention of students, with on-stand Try-A-Trade activities giving interested young people the chance to experience some typical industry skills,” said Visual Connections General Manager, Sarah Moore.

“However, it’s the information and insights provided by careers advisors, trainers, current apprentices and industry professionals that help students, teachers, and parents get a real sense of what a career in print, sign and graphics might involve.”

While the Sign & Print Career Connections team is fortunate to have long-term partners, careers advisors Tina Mavris and John Watters from AusSIP leading the teams on the stand in both Adelaide and Brisbane and have assistance from the local TAFEs, Sarah says volunteers who can spare an hour or two to attend the events and speak to visitors will make a huge difference.

“We are looking for people who can help explain the processes and products on show but also share their own career journeys, provide some insights into the opportunities available in the industry, and help us get students excited about the possibilities,” Moore says.

Volunteers will be supported by a comprehensive 20-page brochure that provides information on industry careers and an online resource that connects potential apprentices to training and employment opportunities.

Volunteers can register with Visual Connections by phone (02) 9868 1577 or email [email protected] .
